IN THE SHADOW OF HER MAJESTY

Experience a gripping exploration of morality and justice with our latest play set in the heart of North London. In The Shadow Of Her Majesty offers a thought-provoking perspective on the flaws within the UK justice system through the eyes of women on the outside, some have suffered violence and harassment and others have loving ties to the men behind the walls they see everyday.

As the female family home gazes upon the looming walls of HMP Pentonville, audiences are invited to delve into the complexities of societal norms and the impact of stifled male behaviour. Can men truly be reformed? Is prison an effective solution for offenders? These questions take centre stage as the narrative unfolds, shedding light on the trials faced by women in a world tainted by poverty and patriarchy.

Join us on a journey of resilience and empowerment as this family of women; daughters, sisters mothers and chosen aunties, as they navigate through a landscape coloured by past grievances. Will they discover their inner strength amidst adversity, or will the weight of history prove too heavy to bear? Above all In The Shadow Of Her Majesty is a powerful examination of forgiveness, redemption, and the enduring power of the human spirit.

Against the backdrop of the challenging Christmas season of 2021 marked by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the play delves into themes of class disparities, male power dynamics, and the intricate clash between established UK legal frameworks and moral righteousness. The diverse ensemble features women spanning a range of ages and cultural backgrounds. After finishing the first draft of this piece a rehearsed reading was shown in December 2023 at Collage Arts with actors from the esteemed young actors of at the Collage Voices programme.

In The Shadow Of Her Majesty will now be showing a full production at The Jack Studio this November 12th - 16th.
